A lot of these characters are not really used in Japanese, but this is one of the quickest guides to how kanji work I've seen.

    Thanks for posting this. It's a helpful adjunct to Heisig's Remembering the Kanji, which I'm just beginning. I especially liked her explanation of the origin of 出; I hadn't been able to figure that one out for myself.
